Job Purpose:
Responsible for the care of lawn spaces that Gardens and Horticulture team oversees. This includes mowing, trimming, edging, path maintenance, de-thatching, raking etc. As time allows this position will be asked to assist with a variety of basic maintenance tasks.
Specific Duties:

Mow, trim, and edge turfgrass in areas the Gardens and Horticulture team oversees.

Maintain gravel, brick, and paved paths through organic herbicide application, manual weeding, and flame weeding.

Ensure basic care of mowing equipment (mechanical skills not required as there is an onsite mechanic)

As time allows, assist horticulture team with basic maintenance tasks.

On occasion, will work on projects with volunteers but does not oversee volunteer projects.

Other duties as assigned by Director, Gardens and Horticulture.
Minimum Experience and Required Skills:

Highschool diploma or equivalent. Experience in mowing and turf care. Interest in public horticulture.

Ability to communicate knowledge orally. Excellent time-management skills to handle a variety of assignments simultaneously under a variety of deadlines and other constraints.

Ability to understand and interpret instruction to work effectively and efficiently independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team.

Ability to interact in an appropriate and professional manner with the public, staff and volunteers.

Valid driver's license required.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision and depth perception
Schedule:
Standard workdays are 7:00am to 3:00pm with a three-day work week (21 hours per week). It is required that Wednesdays are worked each week, with the other two days of work set for the season at the convenience of the candidate (Must fall within the standard Monday through Friday work week). Duration of employment is expected to be from April 1, 2025 to November 1, 2025.
Compensation:
$16.00 per hour
