This week's adventure into Hagley Library's Digital Archives comes courtesy of the Tandy Leather Company, whose 1961 Adventure in Leather from the Beginning of Time explores the history of tanning and leathercraft from the prehistoric caveman to the modern hobbyist, all presented in a comic-book promoting Tandy supplies.
This work is Pam 2017.1126 in our pamphlets collection and is part of a digital gallery of other promotional comic books selected from our collections. These works were generally, though not always, produced by corporations and other business entities for the purposes of advertising a product, managing a company's public image, or providing consumer education. A number of these works were also produced with the goal of influencing public opinion regarding socioeconomic political issues such as organized labor and government regulation of businesses.
