It's a new month, and today November brings with it the November/December 1948 cover of Better Living magazine, a DuPont employee magazine created and published by the company's public relations department. The magazine featured the company's popular advertising slogan "Better Things for Better Living...Through Chemistry."
This issue was the "Nylon's Tenth Birthday Issue", with a cover featuring DuPont employee Grace Elkins from the company's Nylon plant in Martinsville, Virginia. Elkins, along with thirty other women, participated in a "Nylon Look" fashion show in celebration of the fabric's milestone anniversary. Elkins cover look included the nylon hat and dress she wore at the event, which apparently "aroused much enthusiasm".
In keeping with this branding, its issues featured photojournalistic essays celebrating DuPont products' contribution to improving American standards of living, features depicting DuPont employees at work and at leisure, updates on DuPont activities at home and abroad, and articles extolling free market values and the role of citizen consumers in postwar America.
