Junior Accountant
Job Purpose:
The Junior Accountant performs a variety of accounting functions for the Business Office, including Accounts Payable, Billing, Accounts Receivable, Cash Receipts, Payroll Processing, balance sheet reconciliations, filing, maintaining records, and other fiscal administrative duties.
Specific Duties:
- Processes vendor invoices, purchase card transactions, and travel and expense reports.
- Sets up and maintains vendor records in the accounting system, gathers required paperwork (W-9), and works in partnership with vendors and internal staff to resolve any payment issues
- Matches invoices to purchase orders, gains proper approvals and general ledger budget coding. Enters invoice vouchers into AP system, prints aging reports and vendor checks.
- Manages purchasing card transaction processes, ensuring appropriate business use and compliance with policies. Preparing 1099s for year-end, ensuring the accuracy of IRS reporting.
- Processes bi-weekly payroll through ADP and organizes health benefit and retirement plan remittances. Works with the Human Resources Director to update and maintain employee deductions and monitor related payroll changes. Maintains strict confidentiality of all records and transactions.
- Maintains relationship with ADP account manager to endure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations, ensures annual W-2s are completed timely.
- Performs various balance sheet reconciliations as assigned, research variances, and proposes corrections.
- Prepares accounts receivable invoices and journal entry transactions for rental commissions, royalties, and collections on loan.
- Responsible for processing checks received from the Development Department, various payments, and cash received from the Events department.
Minimum Experience and Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 2 years’ experience. Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with a high proficiency in Excel and other business analytical tools. Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving ability, with attention to detail and appropriate follow-through. Individuals should be analytical with the ability to help create processes that enhance organizational efficiency. Prior experience with ADP is desired.
Schedule:
This is a full-time position at thirty-five (35) hours per week. The normal schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm.
Compensation:
$47,000 - $53,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
