A Modern Store: Strawbridge and Clothier (1932)

Video of the Month
Monday, November 19, 2018

This month's featured film is from our Strawbridge and Clothier collection. The film goes all the way back to 1932 when the famed department store expanded its flagship store on the corner of 8th and Market Streets in Philadelphia.

The silent 11-minute film titled "A Modern Store" begins with the evolution and planning of the new building. It then shows the details and danger of construction work during the era. It ends with the grand opening of the store with unique views of the iconic Philadelphia business.
