Summary: J B. Hutchinson & Co. began leasing the Hagley Cotton Factory from E. I. du Pont on September 1, 1831, investing $27,000 in new machinery for their cotton-spinning operation. Employing 15 men, 20 women, and 40 children, the company produced an average of 3,500 lbs. of No. 10 to No. 15 cotton yarn per week. The company's lease ended sometime before January 30, 1838, but it is not known exactly when they vacated the mill.
