The library has recently been conducting tours for visiting groups. Here is an item that was on display at Manuscripts and Archives for two different tours on one day:
Vignettes for General Electric Televisions, Lexington Hotel, New York, 1953
The image is of a rendering from the William Pahlmann Collection. Pahlmann, a leading mid-century interior designer, provided options for placing a television in rooms at the Lexington Hotel. Since televisions were being introduced to living spaces, Pahlmann gave his clients advice on suitable locations within interiors.
This is one of a number of renderings which depict fabulous mid-century designs for residential, commercial, and corporate interiors. To view additional images, visit: Hagley Digital Archives, William Pahlmann Collection.
Lynn Catanese is the Chief Curator of Library Collections at Hagley.
