Owner: Alexandre Cardon de Sandrans, Charles Dalmas, James Antoine Bidermann
Industry type: Tannery
Location: Hagley
Active dates: 1815-1826
Summary: In 1815, Alexandre Cardon, Charles Dalmas, and James Antoine Bidermann established what may have been the first tannery in the state of Delaware on the lower end of the Hagley property. The company utilized a new tanning method, producing leather in two to four months as opposed to the twelve-to-eighteen month time period required by traditional tanning processes. Unfortunately, the new process produced leather of a lesser quality, leading to the eventual demise of the company in 1826.
