Summary: Mr. Ray [first name unknown] operated a brick stave mill in lower Brandywine Village near Lea's Mills in the mid-nineteenth century. The mill manufactured the wood staves, or strips, used to make barrels. Ray most likely sold his staves to the many coopers located along the Brandywine.
